multi.expo canon 70D

Canon eos 70D
hi

when in menu 4/ multiple exposure/select image for multi.expo
multi,expo is greyed out.
or as it randomly popped up, as being selectable but then shows "no compatible images available
for selection even though i have previous multi exposures on the card
