Agreed, it was 2 years since I bought tyres for the golf and since sold it.

Fitted Michellin Pilot Sport 4 - great service from STS Tyre Pros in Acle as ever.   If you're in the East of Norfolk I would recommend them.

Car is a lot quieter than the worn Pirellis it had on the front but then a new tyre to a 2mm tread isn't a fair comparison.Braking is nice and sharp again and I can't spin up the front wheels in 2nd any more data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7again what else would you expect from a brand new tyre?
Happy enough with the tyres a bit sad about the state of my wallet but there you go data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I've just picked up a new GTD. Bridgestone Potensa tyres are fitted. Noisey, or have I been spoilt in the quiet comfort of an Audi Q3.

https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/bridgestone/potenza-s001/225/40/R18/Y/92/f?tyre=30313437
Rated E for fuel,
B for wet stopping
72dB for external noise

£13 a wheel cheaper than the MPS4 I bought if ordered at Blackcircles (£102.79 vs £115.80)
1 dB louder - but similar to the Pirelli I had before.
Hopefully your getting good cornering for that E fuel rating.

I read online that the noise rating isn't super useful as it's external not internal - I guess internal is so dependent on the cabin soundproofing and suspension that you couldn't objectively measure it across all types and sizes of tyre.External noise can be measured with a cablibrated set up and driving past.

My suspicion would be the GTD has harder suspension so you're getting a bit more road noise but it's hard to be objective unless you used a sound meter app on your phone or a proper meter.

I've got a GTI with the same tyres and I have the same experience with noise. The Bridgestone's wear very slowly but as a consequence they don't have much grip - particularly in the wet.
The GTI/GTD is not the quietest car inside anyway but the tyres don't help.Your Q3 would have been much quieter.

Just thought I would add to this - have a 2016 GTI PP and just changed the front tyres from Bridgestones to the Michelin PS4's and the change is quite dramatic!
Did a lot of reading (probably too much!) but settled on the PS4s and a few hundred miles in am thinking I made the right choice, handles a lot better and seems to be a little quieter

GTi went in for MOT on Monday.I was a bit shocked when I got a call that the rear inside was below the limit, thought I'd checked them quite recently but clearly not data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
So my mechanic offers me Michelin Pilot Sport 4 for £108 each fitted or Pirelli Zero for a bit less but he doesn't rate them.
Had a really good experience of the Michelin Cross Climates on the Mini during the Beast from the East so I'm keen to get them on the Golf. His supplier can only get them for £140 a wheel data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I reluctantly agree to PS4.

Then over lunch I check Blackcircles - £190.42 for a pair delivered to my mechanic on Wednesday.Give him a bell, "fine I'll cancel the order, keep the courtesy car until Wednesday, order them and have them delivered to me".Obviously I'm paying him to fit them and he's happy to put the new tyres on the front wheels.Order placed at 1pm.

Got a call Tuesday at 9am - Blackcircles have just delivered my tyres, ahead of all his other parts deliveries even from the local suppliers, car will be ready that afternoon data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7.

October/November is £290 for tax, an MOT, service and Insurance will be due too but at least I've saved a few bob.Top service from Blackcircles and from my friendly village mechanic data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
