What sad news but he seems to be dealing with it in a great way.

I've read/been collecting his stuff for years and enjoy both his M stuff and non M stuff, very sad to know there will only more great book by him.

I hope he manages to enjoy his time left and knows how much he will be missed.

Just read about this today, very sad news, a wonderful author. I like the way he is going about things, given such terrible circumstances he really seems to be making the most of his time. Good for him.

sad news indeed.

Been reading his work for well over 20 years and keep revisiting them.

Scifi , fiction and non-fiction ; even his TV and radio interviews were always superbly entertaining and interesting.

I'm looking on the hopeful side ; maybe he has another one to go after his latest.

Not read any of his books, but it is always sad to hear that someone has so little time left.

I hope and pray that he enjoys, to the fullest extent, the time he has left.

I've got all his SF books   a few non-SF.

This is sad news indeed.

I put a message on the Banksophilia site, and it's great to see how much he appreciates the response that he has got from the fans.Maybe we should try to make a point of doing that sort of thing for the authors that we love and who are not about to die!

Being a member of Iain Banks Fan Forum I have long told the man how much he's appreciated.

I guess most wouldn't post these details up front (beside people like Terry Pratchett that is), but Iain's not just a great writer he's a decent human being to boot, still hoping for a miracle here.

I like to think from his perspective he'll just be in bed one day and wake up feeling better and miraculously recover in the next few days and keep going forever in that particular universe. That will be the universe that Iain Banks never dies in.

In our particular universe he'll be gone but down the infinite branches somewhere its just business as usual for him.
