He's a prolific writer, which is great if you like his stuff. In the books they usually throw in the first chapter of the next book to get you hooked.
I've started reading these, only on the third but I can already see the formulaic aspects. Still, very easy and entertaining reads - I especially enjoy the detail when Reacher's assessing a situation and determines how he's going to take everyone out before he even throws a punch - his intelligence elevates the stories into something better than the usual in this vein.
Just got into these books, all the hype around the film pushed me into giving them a go,
And my god am I so pleased it did! As much as I feel the film will be a let down I still really want to watch it In the hope that cruise can bring out the personality of reacher, even though he doesn't fit the role physically.
I'm currently halfway through the second book, Die Trying, and it's just like the first one, excellent!
One question, is the film based on a book or is it a standalone story?
The film is based on "One Shot".
Wrt Cruise, I can't see how he can be Reacher in any way. I'll give it a wach but for me it will just be an action film as opposed to Reacher I think.

And is One Shot the VP assassin book ?
Totally agree, which is why I can never watch this film as it would ruin the Reacher books for me forever.

On the last book now, really enjoyable easy reading, but it is best to read in chronological order IMHO.
