Perhaps he doesn't want some of his colourful colleagues like Godfrey Bloom going off-message.
He seems to be the embodiment of the party, and I'd go as far to say he is more popular than the party himself.If he died in that plane crash I doubt we'd have seen the results we have recently, they would be more split as it is votes for more extreme partys are finding a voice in the more moderate UKIP.
I'd say he is a brand 'mascot' like Blair was successfully and brown was so unsuccessfully.
