Part of the problem absolutely is a lack of funding. But just one of many factors.

International school spending – how does the UK compare?
With a total expenditure of over $110,000 per student over the course of their schooling, the UK has the sixth highest expenditure of any OECD country
Obviously 6th highest in the world is a lack of funding.

Expenditure without knowing costs is meaningless.

Well thankfully the Education Secretary agrees with me that more funding is required, alongside a number of other common sense initiatives Unions have been crying out for for years.
I'm beginning to like him to be honest. Putting his money where his mouth is on a number of issues.

Did he?
I didn't see where he said the system was underfunded.
And of course there isn't an education system anywhere that wouldn't want more funding. More funding is always required.

So he doesn't think it's underfunded, but has pledged additional funding anyway? Interesting.

Yes.
As I said, there isn't an education system in the world that couldn't make use of more funding.
Or health system.
Or pretty much any Government run system anywhere in the world.

I haven't. My children's school seems to be very well funded.
And there is the small matter of the 6th highest funding in the world. Now it's true that costs are important .Any evidence our cost base is in the top 6? Perhaps our teachers are overpaid?

If you want to start a thread on the funding of the state education system, feel free to discuss it there. This thread is specifically about state vs private, and the perceived or real lack of quality of education in the state system.Given you have kids in a well-funded school, what are your thoughts on the OP's opening points?
