Blimey if murdering another person isn't an individual choice then what is? Such basics can't be blamed on opportunities or 'born equal' whatever that means...There is nobody else to blame but he/she who pulls that trigger or stabs that knife.
This does not seem to have been mentioned,but if the victims are black and the alleged culprits are black.Then give the Police powers to stop and search suspects, ie gangs, the power to stop and search them.
We are all well aware that people who carry out violent crimes are people. We know that. It is a given that it is people who choose to carry out stabbings.
There is no need to keep repeating it.
Hopefully it is now well established we are all totally aware and take on board that it is people who commit crimes, murder, burglary, stabbings etc etc.

Sometimes I think a benign type of dictatorship (eg Singapore) would be better than our current shambles.

Yup another one who likes to lay the blame anywhere but with the people actually doing this.
Two things that I imagine are hampering the Police.
1 - in years gone by, the Police used to do a lot of profiling which meant they kept a close eye on people that fit the profile.These days if it turns out that the profile is a Black gang or an Eastern European gang the Police are much more hesitant out of fear of being branded as racist.
2 - some gangs create lawless no-go areas which have become extremely difficult for the authorities to operate in.
So lack of Police resources and funding may be a contributing factor but I don't think that would solve the problem unless the Police were authorised to go in hard.

Perhaps if miss Abbott took time off to accompany Police patrols, she might be more sympathetic to what they face. I would not mind being stopped and searched,if it meant my kids were safer on the streets.
