Mine's gone up to £2541. With a gradual further reduction in services (bin collections).

5.5% increase. And I live in Salford data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

£2.5Kdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Lot of dosh.

For peeps paying those amounts, i'm assuming the are in the top few % of earners (ie £100K and the like).

No need to answer that by the way.

rustybin Publish time 26-11-2019 02:21:24

No. Not even close. Combined income isn't a million miles away from £100k, but we're down to one income for the next 12 months or so.

I followed the advice here years ago: Council Tax Bands: Lower your band & reclaim £1000s – MSE

I got my council tax band changed saving myself a few quid along with a backdated payout.I have several neighbours still overpaying despite me telling them, one mumbled something about his house being worth more if it's in a higher tax band data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

@IronGiant
If "Vera" is on a low income there may be additional help available via council Tax Reduction. Rules vary between local councils but worth a look at yours if you're concerned. Likely buried away in the bowels of their site.

Same. Although we're over £2k council tax, a very long way before the 45% tax band!!!

IronGiant Publish time 26-11-2019 02:21:27

Nope, just happen to own an average 3 bedroom house in an expensive area

Qactuar Publish time 26-11-2019 02:21:28

Ours isn't even an expensive area - quite the opposite, in fact. But there you go. We're all in the same boat on our estate!

Though generally if you have more than single digit k's savings you don't get any help.Vera saved her money for a rainy day.Unfortunately that rainy day is her new council tax bill data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

It's about time they came up with a fairer way of calculating Council Tax, basing it mainly on property prices is daft. But that would require thinking and Politicians tend to overheat if they think too hard.
