Just turned on my 2 Xbox 360s after several years...

So I thought I would have a look through all of my WB HD DVD's, to see which were now unplayable. To do this, I needed to use my Xbox 360 HD DVD drive. And an Xbox 360 of course. Of which I have 2. A standard 2nd gen (HDMI connector) off-white model and a 2nd gen Elite. Both boxes have the "Falcon" motherboard revision.

So I tried the Elite first. It booted up with no problems. Then I tried the "ordinary" one. Again, no problems. But then I booted up the Elite again, and was immediately hit with the dreaded "red ring of death" (RRoD). I was (and still am) angry that a motherboard meant to banish the RRoD problem, had developed it. The thing is, is it worth getting it repaired or should I cut my losses and confine it to landfill?

And I still haven't checked my HD DVDs.

That was my assumption. Either that or one half of a pair of bookends. Or discends.

I can still test on the white one. I'm just a bit miffed at something I paid a lot of money for (at the time) going chests up like that. I would've been happy enough to try a repair myself. Though I wouldn't know where to start.

You can always connect the hddvd drive up to a pc and use early version of powerdvd to test the discs! I could save you the trouble as I suspect most if not all of your WB hddvds will not work properly. I think all of mine have packed it in and even some others ie. universal ones are struggling !

From memory the falcon revision didn't fully fix it - I had a falcon based console which got the RROD. I believe it was the Jasper that fully fixed it.

Probably not worth fixing - I'd see if anyone will recycle it

My day one 360's DVD rom drive stopped reading discs last month.Got a second hand 360e and it works great apart from one quirk. It disconnects from live every time you stop and exit a game. You just click on the reconnect box to connect again. Odd, but I only play single player so no worries there. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Are you guys saying the HDDvds I have here are now coasters and not watchable?

Donnacha Publish time 27-11-2019 02:17:18

I would guess most of the Warner Bros discs are coasters
