Help me pick my new budget phone

Hi all,

My s7 Edge is dying on me, battery doesn't last half a day with moderate browsing, and it is out of warranty...

I don't want to pay over £200 for a phone (I have a sim only deal), and I am not a hardcore phone user so don't have to have the best, and have whittled it down to 3 phones - Anyone have these phones, want to give opinions or recommendations for me? I want to go back to a bigger phone too.

I have read a bit on these phones and so far have this information from what I have read

G7 Power - Best battery but only 720p screen, and maybe lack of updates in future?
Honor 8x - Really good all round specs, but again updates may be an issue? Also heard the sound is not great and I do listen to a lot of music/podcasts
Nokia 7 Plus - Again good all round specs, will get future updates quickly, but have read from few reviews that it is prone to a lot of software crashes?

I don't game much on my phone as have a Switch and mainly just browse and listen to stuff, so probably any of those phones would do me, and really like the Honor 8x but the sound issues I have read about concern me. And don't really want 720p screen either of the g7 Power so am leaning towards Nokia 7 plus but again the crashes would bother me if it is widespread.

Any opinions?

Thanks

I’ve got the Nokia 7. Nothing wrong with the sound. I’ve ran it with Apple Music and Spotify and both to in car systems and my Senheisser Momentum 2 headphones. No problems there.

The software is Pure Android which is cool as in theory you should get regular updates.

I didn’t experience crashes either to be honest.

Pocophone F1 can usually be picked up for just over £200 if you don't mind waiting a week or so for it to arrive from Hong Kong. I don't think there's anything else better than it specs wise for the same money, only downside is no NFC if that matters to you.

Alternatively if you wanted to stick with Samsung and AMOLED screen they currently have a trade in offer going where they'll take anything as long as it's working and not cracked/broken to knock at least £100 off the new A50 and A70. If you don't have anything kicking around in a drawer you can just nab a £15 grade A from CEX to use and get £100 off.

Xiaomi note 5 with great battery life 4000mah battery, still recieving updates, full hd screen, 64gb storage, 5.99 inch screen, dual sim, no notch, can be bought brand new from a uk supplier for less than £140. or the note 6 pro very similar but with notch for slightly more.. or wait for the note 7... all well.under £200..great phones for the price.

Thanks, the Xiaomi Note's look interesting.

How do they match up with the S7 Edge I am getting rid off? As I say I don't use my phone for too much so don't even need something powerful, rarely use camera apart from pics of my daughter, hence going for a cheapish one, but I do like the speed of the S7 Edge, never lags etc.

The Note's specs are impressive for the price no doubt!

ive never used a Samsung s7 edge so can't say how it compares but the note 7 is at Xiaomi's budget end of the range. for the price point i think they're excellent phones.

i have a note 5 and in general use, browsing the web, watching videos, etc. never lags.. very smooth. great build quality too.

the note 7 has a faster cpu so i imagine it wont have any problems in general use.

I also have the Redmi Note 5 and bought the Note 6 for the GF for xmas. It's a decent phone for the price, but be under no illusions, it's no match for the premium Samsungs you're use to.

Battery life is good. As long as you're not a phone zombie and glued to it 24/7 the battery will last 2 days. I've had 3 out of it, but I don't use it for youtube, gaming and the like. Just the odd bit of web browsing and the usual calls, text, messenger.

well the redmi are budget end of Xiaomi so not a fair comparison.

the mi 9 and mi mix range are a fairer comparison but still undercut flagships of samsung in price.
