Echo plus (2nd gen) hive thermostat

Hi,

I was looking for some advice, I was told from a sales rep in Curry's PC world that a hive thermostat would connect directly to the Echo plus 2nd gen without the need of a Hive hub, iv been struggling getting the two to pair. There seems to be very little to no info online to verify this. Can anyone offer any advice?

Iv linked my hive account with Amazon akexa for both skills.

Cheers

You have been misinformed
The Hive Thermostat can link to the Hive boiler thermostat receiver as a stand alone system without the Hub
but to use Hive Active Heating and bulbs with Alexa you need the Hive hub

Thanks for the reply, seems the curry PC world people need to brush up on product knowledge //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif

Does anyone know of a universal smart hub that can connect to a whole range of smart tech? From what I can gather, it sounds like I could end up with lots of different hubs if I wanted to connect mysamsung TV, Philips lights, security cameras etc.

As you say it gets messy as manufacturers stick to having their own proprietor Hubs rather than providing a universal solution

As far as Hive active heating, and the whole Hive ecosystem of bulbs sensors and cameras is concerned AFAIK it only works with a Hive Hub
You can add Philips bulbs to Hive but you still need the bridge

Amazon Echo Plus and Echo show have a built in Zigbee Hub so if you have knowledge of smart tech it might be a way to add Zigbee products into your smart home

Harmony have a good rep for being able to control different products, works with Alexa but you need the Harmony Hub but it doesn't control RF devices

Broadlink have the RM Pro that controls RF and IR devices and the RM mini which only does IR and works with Alexa

If you have the time and inclination IFTTT allows you to integrate a lot of devices
This guy is a great resource of how to have a smart home with many useful videos

Really appreciate the info, seems iv got a lot of reading up to do, I'm sure I read that hive uses zigbee but from your explanation I'm guessing the hive thermostat is triggered by RF.
I wonder if there'll ever be a universal language to make everything connect similar to what MIDI did for synthesizers data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7.

Thanks again for the info matedata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

It's weird because the hive devices actually use zigbee. With the lights, plugs etc you can set them up fine without a hive hub, adding them as other devices when selecting their category such as lights. But with the heating it appears the receiver can only pair to one thing, either the zigbee in the eho plus, or the thermostat. So they are compatible but seems you have to choose.
