Mi Band/Fitbit

Kind of 2 part questions here

1) Thinking about getting one of these after seeing a friends recently. I have an Apple Watch however think the Mi Band would offer something different in the sense that it tracks your sleep and also offers an alarm to offer a gradual wake up and for the price of £15 seems worth a try - anyone got any experience of using this and what the thoughts are on the product? Also is a new version due out soon at all?

2) Also had the idea of getting one of these as a present for someone however I'm torn between this and a fitbit, it would be for someone who has no other fitness tracker such as a smart watch or anything. What are the differences between a Mi Band and a Fitbit? Which would be the best recommendation?

Cheers

@wba1990

I have a MI Band and its very good, tracks sleep accurately
still find it creepy how it knows the exact time you go to sleep and wake up
Battery lasts 48 days too between charges
I sold my fitbit as it was not at all accurate

MI Band also vibrates when you hit goals and receive texts or phone calls
for £11.99 its not bad really
it's very light and comfortable too

Opted for a fitbit due to my work, prefer the flex having the whole things covered adding more protection and being able to swap bands so I can have a work and and a non work band

I have the Mi Band as it cost £6 odd on the Get One app from the Playstore.

For the money it's been pretty good, still havent had to charge it yet, the only odd thing is waking up to doing over 100 steps, i do suffer from restless legs, but i wouldn't have though it was counting them as im not moving :/

Getting a Moto 360 hopefully tomorrow so will let the two track and see which is more accurate.

I have been using my Fitbit for a few weeks now and I guess the obvious advantage over the Mi Band is the screen which, however accurately, certainly gamifies the experience and allows for lighthearted competition with your friends and colleagues. I have also integrated it with Myfitnesspal so the fitbit covers the energy use and MFP accounts for the intake.

There is obviously a price difference so it depends how much pleasure you will derive from checking your 'exact' heart rate whilst doing different activities/every thirty seconds!

MI Band it's only to track sleep and steps?

The Mi Band 1s does the following (copied from the Xiaomi website):

Main Features:
• Heart rate monitor: 1S with optical heart rate sensor, shows you heart rate with PPG, you can see the results more intuitively.
• 10 days standby time: Top-level Bluetooth chip and military gravity sensor ensure 10 days ultra-long standby time for a full charging.
• Call reminder: Mi Band 1S will tell you when a call comes, you never need to worry about missing any important calls.
• Sports tracking: Track your sports, record steps, distance and calories, help you achieve your sports target.
• Sleep monitoring: Let you know your deep sleep and shallow sleep, also APP will give you periodical evaluation, help you develop good living habits.
• Silent alarm: Wake you up every morning, will not be late for work; Remind you with vibration, never worry about missing anything.
• Free password to unlock the phone: Forget complex unlock password and gesture, simply raise your hand to close to phones, immediate and safe unlocking.

I've just ordered one from Gearbest.

You can link the MiBand to Google fit as well. It's simple but works.
