Fibre Internet, how do I get it up a long private driveway?
As per the question really. I believe there is Fibre on our main road. Our house is 300m up a private lane. There is an existing copper cable buried from road to lane. I assume this needs replacing to avail of high speed fibre. Who pays? You do. A company has sent a flyer with a promise of a grant. I must investigate further. Current internet speed 14Mbps and I suspect in order to step up the lane needs digging up. Depends how the copper is buried, if it is a recognised data cabling sleeve with inspection points then you may well be able to use this to pull in fibre cable without having to dig. Consumer fibre takes two guises - Virgin Media and the Openreach FTTC product pushed by ISPs including BT, Talk Talk, Plusnet, Sky Now. Neith of which are actually fibre but copper.Which one is it? Virgin Media or Openreach FTTC?
Do these providers state they can provide a FTTC service to you in the checker?
You will need to get a BT Openreach surveyor or VM surveyor to survey and advise. It will require a trench dug by you to a specified point. You can get Openreach to do the digging but it will cost you a LOT of money as opposed to a man and a digger.
BT OR will provde the ducting. You put it in to the specified point with pull ropes installed. You then back fill. BT OR survey and adopt the duct. Your order can then move on to the next step.
Look up Openreach dial before you dig. I think it's £125 for someone to come out and survey. It’s just thrown in a hole and backfilled. I currently have FTTC supplied by Openreach for BT. The new approach promises FTTP. (I think). No shortage of men with diggers around here. If there is money to be got to pay for conduit and cable I want to know about it. Definitely FTTP. I am 90% sure that if it's only you who wants fttp there, any provider would ask you to pay towards that, how much? That depends, try and contact them.
