How to connect laptop to TV for viewing ?

How can I connect the 9-pin VGA output on my Dell Vostro A840 to a TV that has only a red-white-yellow RCA input ?

Search the web for 9 pin vga to rca adaptor and run the RCA cable to your laptop.

This may work vga to rca

Thanks.I bought the Monoprice vga-to-RCA.   It has red-green-blue plugs, and my TV has red-white-yellow sockets.    What goes where ?

Those colours suggest a component video cablewhich makes sense. VGA 15 pin or the older 9 pincarry no audio but analogue RGB component video. They are all vaguely what are called D-Sub connections but 9 pin is older.

Your laptop has a 15 pin VGA output I believe for connecting a monitor?

A cable alone cannot change the three component video outputs into one composite video output.

Your screen inputs are composite video (yellow) and left and right audio (red and white).

RCA describes the connectors and not the signal the cables is carrying. Many VGA to RCA cables have composite RCA jack colours but they can only be component video.

You need to find a component to composite video converter or you need a monitor with VGA or component video input.

Example of converter

Product Details for PID 7114

The composite video output will be one yellow socket. One RCA to RCA male to male cable any colour from there to the yellow input on the TV.

The audio (if you want it) you can take from the speaker/headphone output on the laptop straight to the monitor red and white audio inputs using a suitable stereo headphone two RCA plug cable. Like this

I hope the video on the laptop is worth it data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Also if it is files on the laptop maybe they can be put onto a card using the built in card reader and then from there put on medium for which you have a player with composite video and stereo RCA outputs from?

A new thread would have been better, it doesn't have much relevence to this one from two years ago.

Is the adapter you bought a proper signal converter (generally a box) rather than just a plug adaptor as sold by the less reputable places?

Is your laptop set to output to the second display at a resolution that the converter is compatible with?

If your tv support this and you have win 10, push the windows button and "K" and see if you can connect that way.
