Costco tyres

A slight offtopic rant....

Just had two Crossclimates fitted at Costco on my wife's V60 - and they went on the rear, quite correctly.

When the fronts wear down, the new tyres will again be put on the rear, so the barely worn current rears move to the front..... and so, on.

All of which is fine and dandy.

My wife's car then went into Mill Sunderland for a service and MOT. Never again!

Mill have been taken over by Stoneacre, and they are now always trying to up-sell. In their email and video report, they wanted to change the brake fluid, change the coolant, replace the rear discs and pads (they claimed it would fail the MOT) - but best of all, they said the rear tyres were fine, but had over 30% wear - the two day old tyres that had covered maybe 50 miles!

Sadly, I was just about to leave the UK, so OK'd the rear pads and discs - as I was told it would fail the MOT - but they charged me just shy of £450 - so that's more than £250 labour for wizzing off the wheels and discs, and replacing the pads! Less than an hours work - WTF!

Having only noted the bit about the tyres after I got back from the States, it makes me rather suspect they were pulling a fast one wrt the brakes - no way I can prove it now though. Funny how, when the car went in for a recall item and they did a video on it's general condition, no mention was made of the brakes becoming worn - and that was only 2 months ago.

I will never do business with any garage owned by Stoneacre again!
