I`ve recently bought a new X5 M50D, but does anyone know if it has the garage door (Home link ?) 3 button function on it, that older BMW`s have ?

I`m really keen to be able to ditch the 2 remote fobs & open my electric gate & garage door, from a button from within the existing car set up.

I have an RF/Internet based system from within the house which I could possibly utilise, but would still need the car to send an internet command to do it that way, although RF would be easier.

I`ve looked at the rear view mirror, sun visors, overhead console & no signs of any buttons like the older cars.

Appreciate any help....

Page 286 to 288 of the manual says it should be in the RVM

It is a separate option on most cars certainly Audi and I thought bmw.

The old car would have had it as an option of it worked.  Sounds like new one doesn't

Sorry i didn’t clarify with “if your car has it” it will be on the rear view mirror.

Does the car have Apple carplay? If it does and you use an iPhone, you could always get an iSmartgate garage door opener and activate the door via Siri or the CarPlay screen (once iOS 13 is released)

Wow Thanks for the quick replies, really appreciated.

Just been out to the car & no buttons at all on the RVM It must be a deleted option for the UK. I didn’t see it at all offered, when I specced the car & the dealership never mentioned it, although they were poor at that area (& most others) anyway.

Maybe BMW think we don’t have many electric doors over here, but that can’t be right ?

I’ve just got back from Canada & picked up a Chamberlain garage set up over there & if that doesn’t work, I’ll go for iSmartgate one you kindly mentioned.

It’s all a pain it the rear, particularly on a car that is supposed to have everything tech wise, yet not a feature the old cars have ???

At least I’ve now got a manual (thanks Inked ), something I’ve also been searching for.

All best

Yep it didn't look like it appears on the bmw uk configurator.  So maybe they are not doing it over here any more.  If houses do have a garage most of the time modern cars don't seem to fit

@Inked  out of interest do you think the ismartgate is worth it?

I have two roller garage doors that I don't park car in but is compatible.

Am slowly automating all the house but trying to justify it

Definitely worth it. You’d need the Pro model to run two doors (I got the light as I only have one door to open, the pro can do up to 3)

Incredibly easy to fit with only two wires into the existing door opener (which can still be used) and a power cable.

Only issue I had was the wireless sensor for the door itself as my roller door has IR sensor strips running down the side as a safety cut off, so placement of the sensor wasn’t as straightforward as I’d have liked. I had to attach the sensor to the floor (Making sure it wasn’t going to get run over when parking) and the magnet horizontally to a door slat, making sure that it didn’t ‘cut’ the IR beam when the door was closing
