BMW owned JLR in the 1990’s so their engines haven’t been used in jaguar or landrovers productsfor many years. The last landrovers which used their engine finished production in 2006. I would have thought the same for jaguar.

The 3 litre BMW TD6 engine is a straight 6 and is pretty much bullet proof whereas the 3 litre TDV6 JLR engine is a V6 and is a lot of trouble as is the earlier 2.7 TDV6 engine. They suffer a lot from crank bearing failure and also crank shafts snapping. The turbos are also troublesome and when they fail they generally take the engine out with them. Metal fragments from the broken up turbo travel up through the intake system and into the engine or they can quickly ‘drink’ all the engine oil and seize up!

20k is about the average price to replace one of these engines, the engines are typically 12-15k plus about 1k a pop for each turbo plus 2k for the injectors and then some labour!

Will you sell it and buy something you can trust?

Possibly the question is do your trust a new engine without any modifications to prevent inherent fatal problems, not to fail as the first one did? Or quicker even? If you don’t, what other buyer will and not reflect that in the price they offer regardless of “brand new and turbos just fitted”?

Unless the new engine has been modified to address the known issues which isn’t clear to me at least?
