The numberplate thing can be baffling, people tend to think a registration 'sticks' with a car.
Not at all.
If my car comes with SVF65 ABC and I decide to put a private plate on, then SV65 ABC goes into free circulation and can be bought by anyone else (unlikely, but possible).
People also think a private plate belongs to 'you'.
Again, misconception.
You only have the entitlement to use the plate as long as it's on a car, or on a retention cert.
It's easy to 'lose' a private plate if you don't know what you're doing.

Hmmm well my old A Class failed its MOT in December 2014 with a "Offside Rear coil spring broken (2.4.C.1a)" which is funny because that's one of the things it failed on in September 2013 which lead me to send it to the auctions.  Fixed now and still on the road it seems
I wonder if the coil was fixed and failed or the new owner fixed the corroded brake pipes and replaced the wipers but not the spring?
Interesting site

Most common fail must be the old headlight alignment.

Me too (had the fuel tank replaced at the same time as that had corroded, although I'd figured that out before the MOT from the fumes - eek!)

I have a 96 Chevy Caprice. While checking the MOT history I see that it had a plate change. From CD 688 to it's present reg.I wondered why the woman asked me was it a military vehicle when I phoned up for spares. It came back on her system as a Russian mil veh.Turns out it was a ex embassy car in London.
