Only did a scan read but DL and Churchill are the same insurance company so are likely to have the same stance and DL's current policy (https://www.directline.com/lib/pdf/dl-car-policy-document.pdf) doesnt have any reference to MOT certificates.

Saga do have a clause that your car must have an up to date cert if applicable  however that applies to the whole policy and not just the F, T & AD sections. If the FOS would consider this reasonable would require a test complaint.

As I said, it may exist with some insurers but its not the norm.
