Wowza.  Off to the states for a week next month and the data/packages on my network (EE) suck.

Looks like i'm going to get a Three PAYG.  Currently only £15 for 10GB!  Bargain

£5 a Day (500MB) with EE

Recently got back from the US. Look at the EE Roam Further package. Use your own tarrif for £10 per month.
I set it for one month to cover my holiday. Worked flawlessly as it should.

That sounds less hassle so i'll do that.

Have 6GB a month and will only need a couple of GB when i'm out there.

I think my phone is locked to EE so options were limited anyway.

Worth checking the terms in more detail with Three's Go Roam (formerly Feel At Home), as you used to need to be with them for at least a month before this add-on could be used.

Because 3’s service in the uk can be quite patchy in places, I was with them for about 10 years and have since switched to sky and the signal is night and day. I still use a payg 3 sim though when I travel to the us and oz can’t beat them for coverage over there. I’m sure there is a way to forward your calls from your day to day sim to the 3payg sim aswell

Nope “If you’re a Pay As You Go customer, you’ll need to have activated your SIM and made a chargeable event such as making a call, sending a text or getting online, in the UK first.”

Complete agree. 3 is horrendous in Manchester City Centre, I am talking less than 1mbps download speed in most places. Not great for listening to music etc on my old commute

You don't have to buy one of Three's packages, just get the SIM & top it up with a small amount of credit (I think £5's the minimum) & top up again if & when your credit gets low. There's no point in pre-paying for data, as wifi's available just about everywhere in the US. Some places, e.g. Durango, CO, where I am now, even have free wifi supplied by the town itself & available all over the more touristy areas.
