Not sure what the latest figures for DIY are but they were a lot higher than car deaths. Ban Drills I say, make everyone hire in an approved bodger.

And there's the knee jerk reaction.  Who's said 15mph, except you?

Speed is not the overall mitigating factor (for all accidents), but those three areas I picked out all involve speed.  Even if you take out "Careless, reckless or in a hurry" that leaves almost 30% as having speed as the main factor.

I worked as a driving instructor and I don't claim to know the solution. However, I believe that anything that removes risk factors or gives drivers more information is a good thing.  Driving is distracting enough (even when you remove fellow passengers, dogs, radio/music, phones).  It's one reason why motorways are safer - far less information to process as a driver.

I'm pretty sure it's obvious what you're implying. Your stat analysis and conclusions lead down a pathos argument too.

There's no implication, it's explicit.  If you don't see the difference between making people drive at 15mph (not what I said, implicitly or explicitly) and driving at 15mph (quite common in the part of the country I live in) then I can't do much more.

If I had wanted to say I believe in a 15mph limit I'd have said so. But I don't and I didn't so I didn't.

What makes you disagree with what you've quoted from me and placed in bold?

Speed doesn't kill. Inappropriate speed kills.

Driving at 70mph on a motorway in thick fog, or snowy conditions or very heavy rain is incredibly dangerous. 70mph isn't a speed to be reached in all conditions.

Driving at 20mph past a school with a load of kids crossing the road could also be dangerous if you aren't paying attention.

The problem is people don't drive for the conditions, they seem to drive looking just a few feet in front of them.

I think if you take out perdestian deaths out the figures are dramically lower.

In fact car related death has drop by about a 3rd since I last looked around 10 years ago.

So i can only conclude its about making urban area safer. The solution not slower. It better roads and separating people from cars.

Motorcycles seem to be the blip in figure as well. When I go out on some roads on the weekend, there are certainly a fair few around and at the usual bacon butty stops, many a grey beard. I would say hair but many a shiny top under the bone dome. Which begs the question, motorbikes as well for the limiter/blackbox/other kit? I suppose they will have to.
