But equally - we could have say a minor rise in ocean temperatures, that for some chaotic reason causes the gulf-stream to head south. Northern Europe gets the weather it's latitude suggests it should get, earth's albedo increases hugely (the northern hemisphere has a much lower albedo than the southern) and global temperatures plummet.
