Stick with iPhone or switch to Huawei

I have an iPhone 6 and am looking to upgrade. I’d like something that has a decent camera for taking pics at gigs (in smartphone terms), and from reading up, the Huawei P30 Pro seems to have the best camera currently available, but I have doubts over switching just on the basis of the camera. Is the iPhone 8/XS likely to be enough of an improvement?

I have an iPhone XS and the camera is great, I also have a Huawei P30 Pro (purchased specifically for the camera) and it is a definite improvement over the iPhone with its night mode, wide angled lens and macro function.

If I could only have one, my choice would still be the iPhone however, as overall usability is still better on the iPhone and for quick point and shoot without worrying about settings the difference can be negligible

Thanks!

Do you find the optical zoom on the P30 to be much use?

It certainly is (forgot to put it in my previous post).

Overall the P30 Pro is a fantastic phone (and Huawei have stated it is still due to get Android Q which is good news).

I think for me, I’m just so used to iOS that it feels a bit alien. If I’d never had the ease of an iPhone, and a home filled with Apple products I’d probably be saying it’s the best phone I’ve owned.

The screen is magnificent (and has made me wish I’d gone for the XS Max) and the in screen finger print reader works well as long as your hands are dry and clean.

Battery life is also the best I’ve had in any phone. There is definitely a lot to like and if you’re not too tied into Apple’s eco system then it’s definitely recommended

I think that the iPhone can take the sounds from the gigs much better than the Android phones. I take a lot of live streams from EDM events on my 6s and its great. Some of my fans told me that their Android phones can't record sounds so well...
So, if you don't want to spend a lot of money, I think XR is the best choice (thanks to its at least 4 years of software support we can expect). X would be also ok. 7 or 8 doesn't make a lot of sense to me, these iPhones are not much better than 6s I think.
