Also not an Apple fanboy, but Apple's iTunes Windows or Mac player can be used with original AirPlay devices in the same way as it can with Apple 2 devices, including having multiple AirPlay device audio sync - AirPlay 2's supposed main selling point over original AirPlay.

My suspicion would be that AirPlay 2 would matter more to iPad / iPhone users of any audio producing iOS app or if they're using audio producing applications other than iTunes on their Macs.
