Ok so as in previous thread my sd90 died. Advice and info given on that thread much appreciated and have decided to stick with Panasonic but the above models are the same price give or take  a few £  so which would you choose and why ? The HC-VX980 is newer and 4k but the v800 is well respected ( Terfyn ) but what puts one above the other ?

To be clear, the HC-VX980 was bought out in 2016 and the HC-V800 in 2018. The current 4K offerings are the HC-VX1 and the HC-VXF1.
If you want 4K the HC-VX980 gives you a decent camera at a decent price. Negatives: The technology is two years older than the current units. (is this a problem?)

I sold my Panasonic FZ1000 Mk1 to buy the VXF990 as I wanted to concentrate on video. I used it about 4 times, but couldn't get used to the weight, the poor still image performance & the consumption of batteries. So I sold it & bought my 3rd Panny bridge, the FZ330 which I've been using for around 4 months. Just back from a weeks holiday in Herefordshire, where I used the FZ330 90% of the time with traveling shots using my SJ60 action camera & candid stuff where the FZ would have been too noticeable, we used our Canon Ixus 185 x 2. You can see some of the results on my YouTube channel using the link below.
