I want a case for an upcoming build that needs to ideally be no deeper than 45cm, or at a push a few cm more so it doesn't stick out from my TV cabinet. I've got wiggle room height wise and no real width issues.
That's not too bad by itself but it also needs to hold at least and preferably more than 6 3.5in drives. ATX would be best, Matx is ok too.

The only one I can currently see that may fit the bill is the fractal node 804. So that's possible, but the hard drives mount vertically which looks a bit of a pain cable wise. It also has loads of room set aside as many cases do these days for water cooling (at least here not at the expense of drive bays) and I don't need that. So its bigger than it would need to be.

I'm just looking for any other suggestions. I'm happy to get a bit creative mods wise if needed to fit more drives in.

Most likely it'll be a Ryzen 2700 or something from the new 3xxx range depending on prices, not that it matters particularly. It'll have a midrange graphics card nothing huge so no space constraints for that really.

Any suggestions would be apreciated.

An ATX motherboard is 25cm and a 3.5" drive is 15cm so anything with a conventional layout isn't going to have space for plugs, case thickness and a gap behind for airflow.

Silverstone will have a couple of candidates like the TJ08.

Cooltek/Jonsbo do a lot of shallow cases, but they don't tend to be heavy on the drive bays. Worth a look though.

Thanks for the suggestion, that case might work if i converted the 5.25 bays. Its even shallower than i need though, I could go about 7cm deeper to give some more internal space if such a case existed. I'm not sure if you had assume I meant 45cm was the total space available, but that was just for the case itself, there is a bit of space behind that for cables and airflow.

I currently have a 43cm ish deep dell T20 in the same location which fits fine with a little room to spare, the case holds 4 drives as standard but i have modded it to hold up to 4 more above those with another drive cage designed for a different dell server. This works fine and has done for nearly 3 years but i'm hankering after a bit more performance.
