QNAP SSD Cache'ing

Looking for a bit of advice! I am fairly new to networking, but get by on basic knowledge

Just moved from a Qnap HS-251  to a Qnap HS-453DX

The DX has two slots for SSD storage, which I have installed a 256gb Crucial SSD which I plan to house the Roon server.

Looking online it mentions I can also use this drive to cache, but I cant be sure if it is big enough - they say 1:3 ration, but my main drive is 6TB HDD (Raid 1 with a mirror drive in bay 2), therefore am I right in thinking this SSD is not big enough for this?

Would it best just to leave this to house the Roon server? or can I better the NAS function by using it also as a Cache drive?

Also do I need to do anything to the SSD before installing Roon on it? I remember I had to convert my HDD to a Data Pool etc.

The QNAP forum is of no use as they all talk in command lines which is of no use to me - I use the QTS Disk Station for all management.

I've not used Roon, but an SSD Cache drive is only useful if you have high traffic with lots of small files changing all the time. For a media server i doubt this is the case, generally the information regarding music and films is static info. I have a DS1618 NAS with 4x8TB drives that stores all my media and have never had an issue using it to server my files to multiple clients.

In my opinion, if you have a spare drive bay look to make it a hot spare so if any drive fails this one takes over. Or increase your RAID redundancy.
