Sky Q Extender question

Hi,

I have recently installed a Sky Q booster so that I can get a signal to one of the mini boxes.  That has worked well, so happy with that.

I note that the booster can also be used to extend the wifi signal - does anyone know if this will work with a non sky internet connection?  I have virgin internet & router and it would be a bonus if the Q booster could also extend that coverage, but nothing lost if not.

I might just go and have a tinker with the WPS button to see what happens, just thought it was worth checking if anyone had any experience with this.

I don't have Sky Q, but I was under the impression it uses Wi-Fi protocol the same as everyone else's - they all adhere to the same standards (called 802.11 to it's friends - thought there are a lot of "options" within the standards so occasionally you get some inter-interoperability funnies.)

Wi-Fi and Internet are unrelated to each other, so you don't have to worry about about whether Wi-Fi brand X is in some way "compatible" with Internet service Y. All the matters is how you establish a link between the two.

In a typical SOHO with a single "get you on the Internet" omni-box, it's all done inside the box. If you have separate devices (such as other Wi-Fi Access Points, Repeaters, Ethernet Switches and so on) then you need to connect them together somehow. Cabling them up with a UTP cable is simplest (and usually fastest and most reliable) but for things like Wi-Fi repeaters you can do so using Wi-Fi. What one would typically have to do is teach the repeater how to connect to the router in much the same way you do with a client device by telling it the routers SSID and passphrase.
