Hi folks. My grand daughter's school has suggested we buy her a tablet for home that can download and run the apps that they use in school.
I'm at a loss here tbh, not least because I don't know what apps a five year old would be using these days.
I've planned a face to face chat with her main teacher next week for some pointers but perhaps someone on here has experience of a suitable tablet?

Schools normally use iPads. It seems odd that a 5-year old would need one though.

The Kindle Fire HD Kids Edition tablets are fairly cheap (compared to an iPad) and come with a 2-year no quibble warranty and a big rubber case to protect from damage. If your child somehow does manage to break it, Amazon will replace it, no questions asked, apparently. My son has one and he loves it for his Lego YT videos. Downside is you're in the Amazon infrastructure so apps available may be limited, but there are... ahem... ways around this, allowing access to the full Google Play Store.

The tablet section in general has taken a real dive recently, other than Apple and Amazon, there's not a lot decent out there now, at reasonable cost.

Odd school my 5 year has a list of recommended books with massive emphasis on reading.

I really don't think a tablet will add any value especially at 5 years old. By all means get one but a better investment would be books and bedtime stories.

Find out what apps they are talking about and how it ties in with the curriculum. You will need to know if it's ios or android.

Might just be a posh school so don't take offence to my comments.

I just got my going on 5 year old a Lenovo tab 4 8. I managed to get if for £99 and a big rubber case for about 10. I have it set up with a kids Google account that I control from my phone. I like it that much I'm tempted to get one myself.
