I use Hotels.com I stick my dates in and see what comes up, then check the locations out on Google maps. This year we stayed at the Q & A on Pine St, we got a great price and it was within walking distance of most of the attractions in south Manhattan. We also needed our own kitchen as the previous 8 days was a roadtrip and we were sick of fast food!
A lot of people go for Midtown, but I think anywhere is okay as long as it isn't too far from the subway

All done and booked aside from itinerary gaps.

We are staying 3 nights at The Beekman, 2 in a park view suite in The Park Lane hotel and then final one at The Michelangelo near Times Square district.

For anniversary dinner have booked Le Bernadin. Everything else is gonna be cheap eats.

Missus still thinks I have booked Easyjet to Barcelona. Hehe.
