Yeh, that could work, the reason we need open return is may end up coming back quite late in the the evening, so the extra time/hassle with the connection via Mcr could be a problem. It's not the end of the world, just the fact that I could almost have done it exactly as I wanted makes it extra frustrating! Getting a win travelling by train these days is so rare.

Frustrating - yes.  And every person who can't be bothered to even go as far as you have, and simply gets the car out (as many do), is another example of how the Railway, Government and all and sundry involved, have failed to keep another vehicle off our already woefully overcrowded roads.
