Hello all

Was looking for a section on home cctv system, but there doesnt seem to be one on AV forums. Or, if there is, somebody please point me in the right direction.

I've seen plenty of Hikvision and Hiwatch (made by Hikvision) for sale and wanted to know if anyone can testify to the quality and functions, featuresof both?

Or, if anyone knows of any good reliable brands of cctv to check out?

As for budget, was hoping to get the full kit for £200 possibly ?

I only need night vision 2 cameras (2.4mp or 5mp), 2 cables and the 4 channel DVR unit. Nothing extreme, as its for a small property. Just want it to run in the background either continously or motion detection.

As for cameras theres dome and bullet, so whats the best and why?

As for DVR hdd, whats the difference between desktop hdd and surveilance hdd?

Thanks for reading.

I've got HIK Vision.  Good quality camera, reliable, app works well.  Fitment was easy, set up wasn't too difficult although interface I didn't find the easiest.

Turrets are often said to be best. Domes sometimes suffer from IR reflections and bullets get cobwebs apparently.  I've got 3 domes as they are low down and one turret ath the mo.

I’ve got Hikivision.
5 dome cameras - wide lenses so can see a wide area. 8 channel DVR, which sits in the loft.
It all works flawlessly. Has a good guarantee.
Access is via their mobile app, which again is easy enough to use.

I’ve just replaced the 2 cameras that were fitted with my original installation 2 years ago. They were unbranded Chinese imports and tbh I didn’t do much research, just went with what the installers picked up.
Was never really happy with the picture quality and the NVR was a bit clunky.
This time around I spent ages looking online and opted for 2 Hikvision turrets and I have to say the improvement in build and picture quality is very noticeable.
Can’t offer an opinion on the operating system as I’ve linked the cams to my Synology NAS.
One thing to look out for is that some Hikvision cams are grey imports, cheaper but don’t benefit from after sales support from the manufacturer.
