Retro gaming PS1 or PS2 recomendations

I recently saw an advert for a Playstation one console that has 20 games preinstalled and was initially excited at the thought of playing some old PS1 classics. Unfortunately, after viewing the 20 pre installed games, none of them really interested me that much.

So I started looking around and noticed loads of Retro gaming consoles out there on the market but am slightly confused as to how easy they are to use.

Despite being a member of this forum for many years I'm not PC savvy, so what I'm looking for is a plug in and play type of thing.

Can anyone recommend a good Retro gamming console that has a good choice of PS1, Amiga, Spectrum and arcade games?

Also, are there any retro consoles that are able to play PS2 games yet?

Buy a rasberry pi, download retro pi and locate some roms, a few buttons and sanwa joystick and if by magic


                               
In all honesty a pi with an 8bitdo controller will work just as well, ps1, n64 games work very well, some ps2 games do work but depends on the emulator used (not on the pi3 thoughon the pi your really limited to pre  gamecube era)

I built this bar top arcade system from scratch approx 10 months ago and it's without a doubt the most rewarding project I've ever undertaken.  When we have visitors, both adults and kids are drawn to the machine.  If you fancy a project, I'd recommend going this route.

I fabricated the cab myself, there are loads of designs freely available on the web with measurements included so picked bits I liked and went at it.  Wasn't the quickest of builds and there were a lot of aspects I didn't consider when designing which meant I had more than a few head scratching moments thinking of solutions to little problems.  Got there in the end though which made it even more satisfying.

I would recommend buying a kit to anyone thinking of having a go, would save a lot of headaches.

I really need a one box solution that I can just plug in and play.
Anything that involves downloading and installing never works for me.

I did also think about just buying a PS2, which will obviously play PS1 games as well. did they ever release a HDMI lead for PS2?

An orginal modded Xbox and a component cable is all you need. You can snatch one on ebay that has thousands of arcade/neo geo, amiga, nes, snes, genesis games built in. Mine has around 30,000 games on a 2TB hdd.

Not officially, but I recently got a PS2HDMI 3rd party converter box on ebay for about a fiver. Seems to work fine, though it doesn't work for PS1 games as the signal isn't a high enough resolution for most modern TVs to consider it a valid signal.

I just bought one.
I know the PS2 had a Component lead that you could buy so maybe I need that for my PS1 games.

I had no idea these even existed.
I should be getting my PS2 delivered today so i'll see if that makes me happy for a while or if I really do need to scratch that Retro itch with even more games
