Yamaha CDR HD1500

Very interesting RoboDutch, I have had my unit for over a year now, everything perfect , but I would like to back-up my hard drive and have the means to convert stored files to MP3.

Could you please tell me where to find the program 'Yamaha_CDR-HD1500_Assistant'. and provide a little more details on the 'extern usb-hdcase' other harddisk set-up.

This information will be greatly appreciated it sounds exactly what I am looking for.

Hi NickAF,

Check out this link and go to reply #8. There is an attachment that is a compressed version of the software.

This is how it works:
- Take the HD out of the 1500
- Put it into an USB-HDCase
- Now connect the USB-hd to your pc
- Make a copy of everything to another HD

From hereon you can convert to MP3 , TTA , Flac or anything you want.

Let me please know if it all worked for you and if I was clear enough.

Many thanks for getting back so quickly - I hope to be able to get some time to look at this soonish - it all seems exactly what I need.

Your explanation is very clear, although I 'm afraid I must ask what will perhaps be considered some rather basic questions:

Is it easy to take out take the HD out of the 1500
without damaging anything?

What exactly is a USB-HD Case and will any such case work or are there specefic models for specific Hard Disks?

I presume the other hard disk is simply conected to another usb port on the pc.

And finally, slightly separate from the above, could you recommend a particular larger Hard disk for putting in the Yamaha 1500 (I currently have the standard 250GB) - I guess if Idid upgrade to a larger Hard disk I could then use my 250 GB as the 'other' hard disc - but would then need another USB-HD Case ?

Well I hope I am not sounding too much of a rooky and that I am making sense.

Basic questions or not .... that's why there are forums !

It is really very easy to take out/change the HD of the 1500.
First unplug the 1500 from the power.
Then unscrew the door at the back-side.
Gently unplug the ide and power cables.
Pull out the HDtray and unscrew the HD to take out/change.
You can also go to the next Yamaha-link

and download the english manual and go to pages 89 and 90.

Finally it is possible to use greater HD's in the 1500. But as Yamaha
refuses to make a possibility for using more than 99 tracks per disc or album , you can never create subfolders or playlists. I think this is very stubborn and immature from Yamaha.
For that reason I use several HD's because I have more than 600 cd's.
I use only Samsung HD's of 250Gb and only with 5700 rpm,because they are almost soundless in noise.
The HD's with 7200 rpm I tested, are making a high whisteling noisy sound.

I hope you'll tell how everything worked out.
And if there's anything ... just don't hesitate to ask !

Super busy at present so have not had time to act upon this sound advice. Just one or two more questions:

I understand your point about file and folder limitation on the Yamaha, but if I just wanted to keep adding more CD's onto one Hard disc presumbly I would be able to do this and perhaps getting around 600- 700 on a 400GB Hard Disk - or have I missed another snag here?

Aslo I notice some of the Hard disks and HDcases talk of a size of 2.5 and others of 3.5 - which size do I need for the Yamaha CDR ? - as yet I have not gone to take the Hard disc out of the machine - I guess all will become apparent at this stage.

Seeking info on how the remote works.

Am thinking of buying the HD1500, to inhabit a cupboard, accessed by an IR repeater for the remote. QUERY: can one use the remote keypad to access a stored CD simply by number (without navigating the screen)? What I wish is to have all my CDs on it, then simply eg type "37 enter" on the remote to play the 37th CD. Have read (& reread) manual and its not clear if one can . . . . it looks as it it should be possible in principle, but its not clear how they have designed the interface. So if someone who has one could help I wold be grateful?

Great piece of kit but oh dear what a poor handbook. I need some help if possible. I have recorded tracks from several cds for a particular type of music genre. I now want to record some more tracks of a different type. I want to be able to use the random play feature but keep the music types separate so that I can to listen say to just country or pop etc. Can't see how to do this.  Any ideas anyone?

Hi,

You just met the greatest problem of the Yamaha. There's no way to keep different types of music apart. It's a great machine , but only for High Quality mass-recording on HD or CDR.

If your music choices are < 180 minutes, you can put every type of music in one disc ... so disc 1 = country, disc 2 = classical etc.
Or there's another way (like I do), I have several harddisks.

I already contacted Yamaha HQ, but there's no hope in changing this problem.
