and that's the term you used in the 70's was it ?
In the 70's and 80's it was quite common for people to refer to asian owned corner shops as the P-word Shop.
I myself was guilty of using the term as a child because I didn't know any different and didn't dream of it being offencive.
However, as I grew older, wiser and more knowlegable about the world, I realised that I was naive and wrong to have thought it was okay and not offencive.
I used that as an example because it was a) quite common back then and b) an example of which some people don't like to think about or refuse to accept that they were wrong to do so - they would prefer to argue that it's all about silly PC nonsense and lefty liberal agendas than accept any possible error of judgement or question their own ideas and character.

sort of ignoring and helping dismiss the point that it was quite common to use racially offencive terms like that in the 70's and 80's without often realising it - and that there are people in denial or refuse to accept it was wrong, innappropriate or racially offencive.

We had one RE lesson in 1985ish taken by some trendy happy clapper travelling Baptist minister with a guitar. Definitely an indoctrination attempt. That bloke, Steve Chalke, eventually ended up a presenter on GMTV and Songs of Praise.

Back in the day RE was quite a handy GCSE as it was all coursework IIRC - the main topics I remember covering were:
- The different layers of the Caste system
- Nuclear war - the pros and cons (mainly cons if I remember well)
- Abortion
I think it had stopped being RE by then and was more 'human stuff' E.
Nothing about it was trying to 'make' us religious

"P //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif ki " shop is clearly wrong and is not used by anyone with any credibility any more.
The world has moved on, so I'm not sure why you are harking back to four decades ago?

I once got grassed on for cheating in an RE exam I couldn't be bothered revising for. Although I got rid of any evidence before the accusation, I was told to resit in the next lesson. Did a bit of revision and beat my cheating score by some margin. I'm sure there's some karma in there that guarantees me a spot in hell.

On that front would the French calling English les rosbifsor English calling the French Frogs or indeed the Australians with with with poms be classed as racist , demeaning , derogatory or justbanter ? All widely used still today as are the ones for Pakistani and indeed Chinese ( you know the ones ) now .
Its a fine line that can be innocently crossed .
