And as it involves cash it's popular for money laundering. Hence a link with PIRA and taxi companies...data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I will have to take your word for that, I'm not familiar with PIRA practices data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I’m not arguing against them at all, I’m just putting it in context when you keep shifting the goalposts data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

The checks purely show what people have done in the past, not what they will do in the future. So highlighting that it was an Uber registered driver who did something at the palace a few weeks ago seem to indicate disingenuous intent on your behalf. Now if it was something that happened in the passed it could be a different matter. However it isn’t actually Uber who provides the license, it’s TfL. So even then it would be a failure on TfL.

And yes I hundred percent approve of anyone and any legal entity sticking to the law and following the rules.

I have mates who served in Ireland and PIRA tried to kill my twice. So I am.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

To be honest any cash business is normally targeted by let’s say the more criminal elements in society. If anything that is not something that works easily with Uber as everything is traceable. Including its drivers and passengers.

You've been in many mini cabs where the driving is appalling. I am suprised you would use them again then. After all havent you been saying about bad service and going elsewhere in another thread

No shifting of goalposts. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I don't agree with Uber for a long list of reasons.

One of them is I like to see proper vetting of taxi drivers. We have a long thread on here regarding taxi drivers and abuse.
And If it purely showed the potential taxi driver had convictions for abuse, assault, drink driving, would you agree there was a point to such a check?

Hence the whole point of them.
Straw man. The link was part of a wider quote of growing sexual assaults from Uber drivers.

Also I have no idea what a detailed check of him might have shown. At the moment the case hasn't come to court. What if he's convicted? What if it turns out he has a history of violence? We won't learn until after the case and assuming he's found guilty. Agreed?

Given the long list of "problems" linked to Uber I am in favour of checks been tightened.
Me too. The same rules that apply to everyone.

And again a black cab driver is less likely to risk it. He went through a lot to get behind the wheel.

An illegal migrant, with a dodgy passport, dodgy background checks, sharing a badge, in an MOT failure on bad wages?

More or less likely to do more criminal activities for easy money?

Taxify forced to suspend London operations just three days after launch

Just saw clip on Sky News and a Mr McNamara who was speaking for Black cabs said this ban was a good thing because Uber were undercutting the mini cabs and now the Black cabs. He made no bones about the fact that Uber could put them out of business.
All the other stuff about checks and criminal drivers, while very important for the customer, was probably 'window dressing' and not the main reason for the TfL ban.

I am not saying this ruling is right or wrong but it does have fishy smell.
