Apparently there are more UK citizens living abroad than any other developed country. Apparently 400 people are leaving every day according to some sources, and 1.3 million university educated people are choosing to live and work abroad. . That is a significant drain leaving gaps that need filling. How can these people be persuaded to stay put and what is driving them abroad.?

So the government should make the place more appealing to the indigenous or shut the **** up and deal with the realities of a modern global world .!

Many in the party blamed the effects on immigration, including the lowering of wages and pressures on social services, for the scale of Labour's defeat in the 2010 general election.
It's been on here numerous times but once again, if you are a plumber you will suddenly find your livelihood threatened when others come here and undercut you. Employers lower wages and conditions as they know some will come here and work at such rates. If this cheap workforce didn't exist wages would rise. Then there is integration. In the past with managed immigration people came here and became "British". Now we have increasing ghettoisation.

You are praising the employment. You really don't see any downsides?
I'm not praising anything, just pointing out the hypocrisy, spin and lack of integrity associated with the government, political and media obsession with 'immigration' to the detriment of more pertinent issues .

I tried to answer it. For some people immigration is an issue. Did you want answers? Immigration can mean a lowering of wages and conditions and unemployment for local workers unless they are prepared to work for the same low wages and conditions as those coming here.
As for the economy it might not even be linked or it could be a result of employers taking advantage of the cheap labour force.
Surely it would be more beneficial to the economy as a whole if we didn't have these immigrants providing cheap labour, but had those who are already here and unemployed doing that work for a living wage?
Less waste of taxpayers money, as people who are currently on benefits would now be working.Less strain on the countries infrastructure, as less people.

What are the relevant values for French nationals, are they increasing by circa 20% a year?
Are a tiny proportion going back home or is net migration for the likes of France fairly steady with peaks and troughs around economic conditions (as the freedom of movement was envisioned)?

The OP of this thread was about immigrants desperately trying to smuggle themselves out of the country, the title was based on that semi irony I don't want any discussion that looks at the negatives of immigration on the UK to be conflated with that, especially as we're a few pages deep now and people might get the wrong impression.
A stat within the above PDF which extents to issues around social cohesion is I think quite telling but rarely used even if it agrees with many peoples gut feeling on it.
That rate of change is astonishing, combine this with the recently ill titled hidden immigrants Britain is full of HIDDEN MIGRANTS ...some of them are Nigel Farage's children! - Mirror Online could (it may not though) cause further cultural/social tensions in a decades time, when the likes of trojan horse, ghettoisation and general lack of integration.
We may see a significant amount of the population feeling alien in their country of birth (I mean those that have been brought up in the aforementioned).
When it comes to the ballot box minority issues (or issues surrounding minorities) that are culturally non British but have full voting rights may be the swing vote and a creeping into all sorts of areas that are traditionally non British or a regression of some of our more liberating virtues just for special interest groups (we already have this for the likes kosherand halal butchery for example).
Of course it might all be alright on the night, and we needed give it a second thought.
