It's not about defining a person's character. It's about administering a fitting punishment for a crime.

What's best for the individual and what good they can do for society shouldn't take precedent over that, imo.

I don't believe in punishment out of some kind of twisted desire to see people suffer.

I believe that people should be held accountable for their actions and that fitting punishment should be administered relative to the effects of their actions.

I believe a guilty party is deserving of such punishment and that the families or otherwise affected deserve retribution for their loss.

Yeah after rereading just now it was more proteus' comments I had issue with so I apologise.

If you are saying simply on a personal level he should hit the guy and face the consequences then I probably agree with you. If you're saying in the eyes of the law he should hit him and not get punished then I disagree.

I myself am the sort of person who would hit someone if I felt justified in doing so, law be damned. Even if aksed by a judge why I did it, I'd say becuase he deserved it.

It just winds me up something chronic though that famous people and police get away with all sorts of crap even when caught on camera simply becuase more people know their name than the plebs or because of what they've achieved or whatever, which is exactly what happened in buzz aldrin's case

In Buzz Aldrin's case he had been harassed by this moron for years and although not justified in hitting him a lot of people seem to have sympathised and thought "I could have done the same" a position you would appear to support. The guy should have had a restraining order applied years ago.But to support your position, Buzz isn't above the law.

You need to reread my post again. I said:

"However, Buzz made a mistake by punching Mr Chubby..."

I shall say no more about this.

Blitzkrieg Publish time 26-11-2019 03:26:37

Yep that exactly as I see it

IronGiant Publish time 26-11-2019 03:26:37

You should also re-read Alan's post then. Alan was not suggesting that Buzz be let off.

Mod hat on:if you are going to chastise/vilify another member for what they might have posted in another thread on another sub-forum about a completely different scenario: Please do some research first.
