There are a load of very good spec phones available, or becoming available soon. They range in price from about £80 (the Xiamo Redmi Note 2) to around £450 (the LeTV S1 Max) and at everything else in between. And some, like the aforementioned Redmi Note 2 and Elephone P8000, shift in huge quantities on release. The Note 2 sold 800,000 units on its first day of release, the P8000 also selling around the same.

But anyone hoping to get hold of one will have to wait. The manufacturers seem to be a bit "laid back" about getting their products on to the virtual shelves. Elephone, for instance, has been promising the P8000 for months, missing date after date. And once it was on sale, many buyers complained about notification leds not working and camera problems. Elephone has promised to replace all affected phones, or a trade up oto their next big thing, the oddly named "Vowney".

That's the one I'm waiting on. There are 2 models, model B has a 5.5", 2K display, 2.2ghz MT Helio X10 Octacore processor, Sony 20.7mp camera, 3gb ram, 32gb storage, 64bit, Android 5.1 etc, etc, etc. And the price? A shade under £200. But its model A which is turning a few heads. It comes with an intel Z3580 2.3ghz chipset and can dual boot Windows 10 as well as Android 5.1. The price for that is a jaw-dropping £255. I'll go for the B myself. Why would I want to run Windows 10 on my phone if I'll never run it on my pc?

goldshirt9, can i ask about your experience with the be touch 2? just ordered one myself, seems like really decent specs for £115.
Jonny is there any solid release date for the vowney? i was looking to get one of those but the release date got pushed back YET AGAIN. Elephone seem to be terrible at keeping to a release date

goldshirt9 Publish time 27-11-2019 22:14:49

£115. that's a bargain
I have had no problems with the betouch 2.
runs great, camera fine, no freezing, does everything I need.
Slight smudge on the bottom right of screen that only shows if the screen is bright.

There is talk of September 20th, but I certainly won't be pre-ordering or holding my breath waiting on it. Yes, Elephone is ridiculous when it comes to delivering and their quality control takes a lot to be desired. But they seem to be really going for upper-mid range with the vowney so its fingers crossed that the hardware will be fault-free.

A couple of updates on this site, seems to be pushed back to either 30/09 or 10/10 depending on which update was released first.

Advertised well. I suppose unregistered names are hard to find.
