Ford Focus starting problems

Hi all, my brother In law has exactly the same symptoms with his focus diesel. Starts then cuts out. Flooring the throttle pedal to bring diesel up from the tank for around 20 seconds it fires and runs as sweet as a nut for days/weeks until it happens again.
I'm thinking that it's some sort of "drainback" of the fuel.
I will add that it only happens if the car is left standing for 8 hours or more! Strange! Did the person who fitted the priming pump solve the problem?

getting to the problem  i had same problem  turned out  fuel filter was not only sucking fuel but at same time sucking air from return pipe thats  what the problem was bad design on fords part
to cure problem  take return pipe off replace with 8mm pipe and straight connecter so the return fuel goes straight back to tank  on the filter put short bit of hose and blank of the return  that way no more air will get in no more problems either mine runs great good luck
