how does getting a handout change your work ethic?. Call it a Basic Income, unemployment pay or disability pay, whatever - it is all just a form of welfare. Renaming it isnt going to change your work ethic one iota.

A UBI is actually a very good idea - it just happens to be totally impractical and will never be introduced simply because once entitlements are paid it is almost impossible to remove them. If we introduced a UBI then there would be significant amounts of people losing out and the uproar from that would be more than any Government could bear.
