I just saw a utube review and it said this unit has the same clunky gui as 10 year old marantz av's. Getting rid of that gui was my main reason for upgrading.

Does the NR1200 have proper and comprehensive bass management ? In other words, can one choose "Large" or "Small" under speaker settings ? and, for small (bookshelf) speakers can one set an appropriate XO setting e.g. 80Hz ?

There are a lot of us who would like to use bookshelf speakers with a powered sub. Hence, it is important to define XO values for small speakers.

I'm not sure if this is possible ? - It would be rather disappointing if the receiver is limited to sending a full range signal to the L and R channels.

Can someone please clarify this ...

Just checked the manual. Once the presence of a subwoofer is confirmed in the settings, the NR1200 lets you define a crossover of between 40Hz to 250Hz.

Does the crossover value chosen e.g. 80Hz apply to both the L and R channels ? In other words, the L and R channels would roll-off at 80Hz and everything under 80Hz would be handed over to the sub ?

The crossovers would apply to both speakers. Frequencies below 80hz would be picked up by the sub. Some smaller speakers, ie, small sandmounts may need to have a higher crossover set.

Thank you very much indeed Gibbsy. So if I understand you correctly, the crossover setting will apply to both Left and Right speakers; right ?

As you have correctly mentioned, smaller speakers would require a higher crossover setting.

Not sure what your definition of "high-end" is but you can still buy stereo receivers with radio tuners (some of these also do streaming):

Pioneer Stereo Receivers

Yamaha Stereo Receivers

Cambridge Audio Stereo Receivers

McIntosh Stereo Receiver

Is the NR1200 capable of driving 4-ohm speakers ?

K-Spin,
Thanks for your reply. The Macintosh looks great, but is a bit (very) pricey for my blood.
