Or this if you’d prefer just 5.1 or .2 with all the modern shizzle, except Dolby Atmos.

Marantz NR1510 (Black)

Planet of sound is just up the street from me...great place for audio stuff...bought most of my turntable gear there...suppose I'm now off to check out their Marantz receivers
You should hit Toronto (downtown) in the summer months, It's a great place to wander

I forgot to add the point of this verbiage...

It means that a considerably bigger range of better speakers can be auditioned with less concern over the receivers current capacity necessary.

Interestingly nr1200 has the same power consumption as the PM8006 but they take the distortion level at a lower reference point on that. As a result the PM8006 is spec'd at 70 w a channel.

Considering the NR1200 also runs all the processing (a guess say 20-30w) you would consider the PM8006 in real world would drive speakers easier/better.

But at the end of the day they are two different products aimed at different people.

I’d be surprised if the processing took more than 2-3 watts.

Modern chips are astonishingly efficient.

I think for pure stereo sound it’s a given that the analogue PM8006 wins. This is as you say aimed at a different people who want a stereo solution with HDMI & ARC.

Indeed, if I was in the market for a stereo amp, between the two, it would be the 8006 every time.

But, as you say, for those who want to watch films as much as listen to music then the 1200 should be a blast.

On top of the ARC and HDMI inputs, the best bit, I hope, is if the NR has some kind of bass management for the twin subs.

Then that’ll be something to seriously consider especially for small speakers owners who’d like to add a sub.

I imagine this might sell very well indeed.

(One thing that annoys me about the 8006 is the lack of a good dac. Instead the cash was spent on a phono stage??? Despite protestations to the contrary vinyl is a tiny, minuscule market).
