Because the thread title is Rift S or Index. Why can one point out the negative aspects of one headset and not the negative of the other? Valve fixed the controller issue but Oculus will never get the Rift S Tracking as good as the Index Tracking.

People can buy what ever they like but let’s not pretend Rift S is perfect.

No one said it’s perfect.

Valve never publicly admitted to the controller click issue and people are still suffering with issues including drift issues.

One would indeed be entitled to point out the negative aspects of a headset.

This, however,

Isn't exactly cutting edge reviewing. And neither does it point out any aspects, negative or otherwise, of any headset.

Rift S had well documented problems with its inside out tracking on launch. I got my Knuckles replaced with perfect units. Rift S tracking still isn’t perfect.

I wouldn’t call the battery Life or the fitment perfect On the Index controllers.
You were lucky to get perfect replacements. One of my colleagues is on his 5th set and those are still defective.

The index controllers are the most advanced controllers and once games take full advantage of the finger tracking like what Alyx shows, they will be incredible.

However I do agree that they are heavily flawed. Ignoring the RMA/QA issues which have forced a way too high percentage of users to get replacements, my main issues with them are:

1. Subpar battery life
2. Average quality buttons
3. Below average joysticks
4. Poor ergonomics

You get used to them, so its not a problem but I really feel like Valve, given how long they tested them for, should have released a controller more ergonomic and comfortable than the Rift S controller, but they clearly aren't there. They also clearly just aren't good at making a controller. The basics, that is the buttons, the joysticks, aren't up to scratch for the price tag. Then when you add in reliability... Its just a really mixed bag.

Its their second time creating a controller so I can cut them some slack and the fact is they've INNOVATED this gen with the control scheme whilst Oculus chose to just do a boring refresh and not try to further advance VR.

Regardless, I think they're the way forwards for VR, especially after the Alyx Demo. Seeing him put separate bullets into each chamber was incredible.

Thanks both.

It's great to have some people contributing with a balanced, informed opinion based on experience of a wide range of headsets, without bias or agenda for or against one particular manufacturer or another.
