Firstly, I can't believe that the first review that I'm writing here is about this particular show, but then again I'm a big fan of Hellblazer comics and John Constantine. That said, the first episode did a great job overall. I was cringing throughout the episode thinking "will they f**k it up" and from time to time thinking almost out loud "don't f**k it up", especially for a particular scene. I'm glad that it has some great Hellblazer references as oppose to the new 52 Constantine(which I have never checked out so I may be wrong) and a bit of a spoiler? they are referencing Newcastle (Hellblazer issue #11, written by the great Jamie Delano) and if you want a bit more details check that issue. There are certain liberties taken, but they don't take away from the character, because at the end of the day it's all about John Constantine and how he acts when faced with messed up stuff (sometimes with humor and if it's something really messed up then not so much, basically his level of fear that you can see on his face/hear in his voice kinda determines reader's/viewer's level of fear, but if my memory serves me well in comics he's very rarely showing fear.) The thing is, I'm eagerly looking forward to the next episode, and time will tell for how long. I truly hope that it'll either stay as good or be better with each following episode, as long as they don't f**k it up by my standards. I mean Hellblazer was canceled and I'm still annoyed by that so hopefully this'll do good and it'll keep going.
