It's booked in for a service on 9th May, so no doubt VW will do me a nice little video of their inspection.  All the stars are aligning...to empty my wallet.

Changing discs and pads is actually a pretty easy job. Just seems daunting if you’ve never done it before.

Well unless you then encounter that various bolts are too tight, or are at such an angle that applying force whilst on a jack and without axle stands it becomes dangerous

I used to do my own pads and disks etc. But work on the theory that if I can get a good garage, reasonable prices and good workpersonship then why muck around on jacks and axle stands with skinned knuckles and finicky nuts and bolts.

Problem is, unless you are used to it, you find that a breaker bar is a god sent but you do not have one, the spare disk has no locking washers or split pins for the various re fitting arrangements, grease you have is wrong, you notice that perhaps the bearing might need doing seeing as it is all in bits......

Sod’s law is I’ll spend all this money on new boots and discs, and then the perfect second hand mk7.5 Golf will come up for sale on the VW site. Looking for one other than white but with Dynaudio.

Surely that spending will be reflected in the trade-in value? (or at least the valuation inspection would pick up on the poor discs and tyres).

One very basic rule - stay away from 'no name' tyres.
