In that case, get the gearbox ECU remapped as well. It takes 0.5 seconds off the 0-62 time for starters. All you need is an Android tablet / phone.

It'll be a while before my priorities allow me to spend £££ to shave half a second off the 0-62 time. 80% of my driving is commuting to and from work...

Silly question but expensive tyres are not a 3.0 issue? Would it not be the same tyres on a 2.0?

Same tyres, but the 3.0 has a shed load more torque.

It offers more than a quicker 0-62 time. It offers an improved warmup procedure to extend the life of the box, smoother changes, raises torque limits, etc

I have a 2016 X3 30d F25 and I like the car a great deal. I took my time choosing it and looked at of the 'rivals'. The XC60 build class is not up to BMW and doesn't drive as well it also depreciates like a stone, Freelanders are too old now and the new Discovery Sport is expensive and I'm not sure about the reliability. I drove both the 2,0d and 30d and there is a huge difference, personally I wouldn't have anything but a 6 pot BMW, my last car being a 335d touring. If you want fuel economy buy the 2.0d if you want driving pleasure buy the 30d, its got the oomph ( 5.9secs to 60) buy it'll also do tootling around. I'm averaging 34mpg more on runs. The cabins a great place to be seats are very good but they are infinitely adjustable so take your time fitting yourself in. Its quiet build quality is good and its well put together. MSport spec is a must both aesthetically and for kit levels. If I have 2 complaints the standard Halogen lights aren't great and if you can find one with an upgraded stereo it is better than standard.  Tyre wear isn't an issue, mine has 20 inch wheels! Would I buy another ? definitely!

PS  If you buy prior to 31st March 2017 Reg date the VED on the 30d is £195

PPS you really don't need to remap a 30d the 8 speed box is plenty quick enough

I'll be honest and say that other than the bit of research I did prior to asking here, that I did not do any further research, and went ahead with buying an X3. Reason being I could have found a reason not to if I looked hard enough but with the 2.0 I saw last week being so good I knew the 3 0 was the way to go.

I had a choice of 3 today but only one of them was the x-drive 35 which is the one I went for. It is white, 20" alloys with panoramic sunroof, a few other extras and offcourse auto.

What surprised me most about the X3 today was that having driven the 2.0d I was expecting the 3.0d to be a bit outlandish. However, at normal driving speeds in the city the 3.0 was actually smoother and tamed. It was like an engine that behaves well but, if you want, is an absolute beast. So refined at acclearting from 10 - 20 as traffic build up eases in town to being a beast from the 40 speed limit on the ramp to 70 on the motorway.

I pick mine up on Monday evening and looking forward to having power on tap while lazy driving through traffic.

Hopefully it's fun day to day as I ended up blowing my budget by £4k and paid for extended warranty on top.

The speaker grill say Harmon Kardon on them. Does that mean I have the upgraded version? I tried it on radio yesterday and sounded fine for everyday use
