99% of the time it's the ballast that fails,a HID lamp will colour shift when it is on it's way out..

I have changed the build myself and there is no need to remove the bumper. The access required is from the the top and the wheel arch. It takes around 15 Mins per bulb.

As others have said its best to replace both as I found replacing one the other failed a few months later.

I would get genuine bmw bulbs as others could cause issues as the  circuits are quite complex.

If your near Northampton i’m Happy to do it!

Part 6 looks the same but had push off clips. The rest looks exactly the same . You should have enough space to get a 90 torx in from the top and then from the wheel arch.

I had a good attempt the other day at this... there is no way you can get (easy) access to all the torx screws via the access panel and/or from the engine bay.

BMW have made this an utter epic PITA an excessive cost for just a bulb on the LCI Facelift model.

An independent garage has quoted £157 for replacing one bulb, he initially said it's shouldn't be necessary to replace both.  But I've asked for the price of replacing both as if the colour is different or the other is close to its EOL, and he's quoted £267

The thought of spending the best part of £300 on pissing Headlamp bulbs is galling.

Plus with the other comments above on saying to use genuine BMW, or that it may be the Ballast, just suggest that the price might end up being higher.

The advantage of taking it somewhere is that they can decide whether it's ballast or bulbs and charge you only for what needs changing. Whereas if you buy the bulbs and it turns out to be the ballast you're stuffed.

FYI, car component failure rates are based on the vehicle doing 100,000 miles so it isgood practice to replace bulbs on both sides.

If your handy with a socket set I'd do it yourself. Front bumper removal is pretty easy.
