If there was no speed limit on the motorway, what speed would you do?

I don't think I'd particularly change my driving speed, so around 70-80mph depending on what mood I'm in with the occasional higher speed if I deem it safe enough.

Or we could work on the basis that conditions are reasonable.

Depending on driving conditions but happy to 'cruise' at 100

I still wouldn’t do 120mph  to see how fast my car can go. There is no limit other than the conditions and vehicle allowing. To me that is simply natural but then again I grew up with no limits on certain motorways.

Pending conditions around me, my car is just as stable at 150mph on the right motorway, whilst when I’ve been in a smart car 100kph felt enough.

There you go told you those sneaky hgv drivers go faster than the speed limit

It's down to conditions and that includes other drivers:-

As you say the vast majority of our motorways are not really up to the job of going that much faster than the speed limit.  The toll road though is a much better example and much more like the decent French motorways.

Having been driven at the 155mph limiter on a two lane unrestricted Autobahn I am not to keen to see those speeds again.  Germans seem to have better lane discipline but somebody not seeing the car and pulling out is going to cause a huge crash....

Also fuel economy as others have said, cruising at 65ish seems to return the best economy for my car.  It will do 155 too but I hate to think what that would give as an mpg

No 6th gear in my car means i'd be revving the bollocks off of it.

In regards to mpg, i got 440 miles to the tank at 130-150mph.

Slightly better than my usual commute to work!

That 200 litre tank must cost you a fair bit to fill up
