Driving License

Hello to everyone!

After 3 years in London/UK I feel like I should get a driving license. I tried to google to get some information but I got a little bit confused, I doesn't look like a straight forward situation where you going to an instructor and he's taking care of all the paper work and such. Also I couldn't find a clear statement about the costs of the whole thing!

If someone can provide me with some links that would be great !

Welcome to AV.
You need to organise your own provisional licence before approaching a driving instructor. Online or post office.  The cost is around £20. Not sure because I never get involved with that.
While your having lessons your need to apply for and pass a theory test.  Costs £26 (?). After passing that you can book the practical test (driving test) £62.50 when your instructor tells you you're ready.

Provisional Licence is £34 online or £43 by post (or £62.50 if you live in N. Ireland with no online option). Hurrah for the UK!!!

For the theory tests can I study and give the exams by myself or I need an Instructor ?

A good instructor will point you towards free materials and may loan you the highway code etc. You could also spend time going over the theory test syllabus with him but your money is better spent studying on your own and paying your instructor for driving tuition.
I don't know about London but the waiting times for a theory test is around three weeks down here with the practical test a six week wait.
If I were you I would apply for your provisional licence and, while your waiting for it to come through the post, ask around for recommendations for a good instructor. Ring him and book a first lesson for when the licence arrives and also book the theory test. Start studying the highway code today.
Then, once you've passed the theory test, take the instructors advice as to booking the driving test.

Given the questions being asked, I think the OP should approach a driving school that can give him all the help he needs. Ask friends and family to recommend a local one.
